Two of West Chennai's most-watched metro stations, Porur Junction and Porur Bypass, are entering the final stretch before passenger operations begin. Both elevated stations on the Chennai Metro's Yellow Line (Line 4) are officially listed in "Final Stages before Commercial Operations - 95% complete," placing them among the most advanced structures on the under-construction East-West Corridor.
The two stations form part of the Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani stretch, a 14.6 km, 11-station segment of Corridor IV's Phase II expansion. According to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) project timeline, this stretch was originally slated for a February 2026 start, but the opening has since been postponed due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly election and is now expected in the second or third week of July 2026, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Wikipedia's station-level data corroborates this, listing an opening date of 15 July 2026 (TBC) for both Porur Junction and Porur Bypass.
Regulatory clearance is also progressing. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has authorised the commissioning of the 14.6 km stretch in Corridor 4 of Phase II, from Poonamallee Bypass Metro station to Porur Junction and further up to Vadapalani, paving the way for commercial services once the Railway Board grants final approval. The CMRS has submitted its inspection report to the Railway Board and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and CMRL can commence commercial operations on this first operational leg of Phase II once that clearance comes through.
One technical condition remains: operations between Porur Junction and Vadapalani may commence only after completion of 26 deck slabs in Corridor 5's double-decker section, work that was expected to wrap up by late March 2026. Both stations sit on Arcot Road, with Porur Junction acting as a key interchange node — it will eventually connect toward Alapakkam and, in a future phase around December 2027, extend to Lighthouse, while a separate future extension is planned toward Parandur Airport.
For homebuyers, the real-estate impact is already visible. Porur's average apartment rates range roughly between Rs 6,400 and Rs 9,350 per sq ft, with flat prices up 7.9% in the last year and over 55% across five years. Market analysts note that properties within 1 km of planned metro stations have seen a 20-30% price increase, and Porur specifically has recorded a rise of ₹800–₹1,000 per sq ft over the last two years as construction progressed. Broader Chennai Metro trends echo this: prime locations including Porur have witnessed price gains of 20% to 40% once metro connectivity became tangible, with properties near operational corridors commanding a clear premium over those on interior roads.
Porur's appeal isn't limited to the metro alone. The locality already benefits from strong road connectivity via Mount Poonamallee Road, Arcot Road, and the Chennai-Bangalore Highway (NH48), along with proximity to IT hubs such as DLF IT Park. Once Porur Junction and Porur Bypass go live, residents get a direct, congestion-free rail link toward Vadapalani and, over time, the wider Chennai Metro network — cutting dependence on Arcot Road's notorious traffic bottlenecks.
For buyers evaluating this micro-market, the message is straightforward: the infrastructure is no longer a promise on paper. With stations at 95% completion and regulatory sign-offs actively underway, Porur's transformation from a peripheral suburb into a metro-linked residential hub is entering its final, most decisive phase.
